The challenge

Students on international programs often relied on local teaching institutions rather than LSE's central Moodle environment. The platform was perceived as a passive content repository and didn't provide enough value to justify another login.

LSE needed to improve both the experience and functionality of the existing LMS rather than replace it.

The approach

Curio began with academic and operational stakeholder discovery. Designs progressed from low-fidelity wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes through repeated feedback before development.

The redesign paired a flexible theme with functionality based on individual learner data.

What Curio delivered

  • Academic and operational discovery
  • Iterative low- and high-fidelity design
  • A flexible Moodle theme for different programs
  • A credit-progress component using Moodle data
  • Personalised assessment reminders
  • Custom Moodle plugins for homepage and course experiences
  • Delivery within the agreed timeframe and budget

The result

The redesigned environment gave learners practical reasons to return: they could see progress and upcoming assessments alongside program content. LSE reported genuine and continuing adoption after launch.

Curio's approach was collaborative and flexible, always giving us the time and space to elaborate on our needs as the customer. Their way of working helps us to achieve our ambitious goals for the project.
